Therapy services in Portland, Oregon

I’m Dr. Nancy Asher, licensed psychologist.

You feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and stuck in a loop, but can visualize a life where you are balanced and on top of everything. You know you have the potential, but are having difficulties managing anxiety and ADHD, as well as the relationship issues that often accompany both.

People in your life have given you suggestions to improve your day-to-day routine, and you’ve made a diligent effort — tried starting projects earlier and making lists to keep track of everything, or in the case of anxiety, tried thinking more positively. But you still find yourself falling behind, rushing to meet deadlines at the last minute, and nothing seems to improve the stress, worry, and lack of agency you feel in your daily life.

It doesn’t have to be like this. As someone who has struggled with ADHD and anxiety, I know the obstacles you’re facing. As a therapist with more than a decade of experience helping people overcome these challenges, I know what works to make real, lasting progress.

I bring energy and curiosity to therapy sessions and ensure that they are highly interactive — designed to make you feel comfortable enough to share your challenges and trusting enough to let me help you work through them. I do not take a passive approach. We’re going to collaborate! If that sounds like what you’re looking for in a therapist (and not a nightmare), I think we’ll enjoy working together.

My practice is welcoming and predicated on respect for all.

I help high achievers and professional adults who struggle with:

  • Is your ADHD causing difficulties in your personal and professional life? Are you a high achiever struggling with working efficiently and meeting deadlines? Are some things that come naturally to others very difficult for you? I can help.

  • We all get overwhelmed from time to time, but sometimes we can get caught in a loop where we feel like we are just treading water for weeks and months. In our work together, I can help you with practical strategies to break that cycle and move forward.

  • Is your anxiety getting in the way of your enjoying life? Is it causing problems in your relationships or keeping you from doing things that you used to love? You are not alone. You can get the support and healing you need to live without anxiety.

  • Time management can be a serious challenge for people with ADHD because our brains experience time differently. Instead of feeling hopeless and discouraged, I can help you understand why you manage time the way that you do and how to best adapt to achieve your goals.

  • Is your anxiety or ADHD causing problems in your relationship? Are you questioning if the relationship is right for you? I can help you gain clarity and show up authentically in your relationship with healthier communication and boundaries.

  • You clearly know how to set and achieve goals — you wouldn’t be in graduate school if you didn’t. But grad school can be more challenging, demanding, and draining than anything you have done before. My passion is supporting grad students like you to develop strategies for success.

What to Expect

In your sessions with me, you’ll learn systems and strategies to help you not only cope, but to succeed. I’ll support and guide you, but also hold you accountable when you need help staying on track. You’ll gain confidence and emotional flexibility. And ultimately find greater insight into your own feelings and thought processes.

I know the struggles you’re facing from both personal and professional experience. Together, we will create a safe space where you can work towards your goals, and build a healthy balance in your life.
