What is ADHD?

Every day you struggle to maintain a routine. You feel like time is constantly slipping away from you. Before you know it, the day is done, and you don’t feel like you accomplished anything. You find yourself apologizing for falling short or disappointing others. You’re consistently running late, finishing tasks at the last possible minute. And though you try to plan ahead and write to-do lists, they don’t seem to make a difference.

You’re not alone in these difficulties. No matter your age or situation, ADHD can have a huge impact on your daily life. Many people assume that ADHD mainly affects children, but the truth is that ADHD isn’t something you grow out of. It’s just something that people may not notice if you’re high-achieving. That’s why, even though it is extremely common, adult ADHD often goes undiagnosed.

Adults often don’t exhibit the hyperactivity behaviors that kids do, but still have plenty of the internal symptoms. These can be wide and varied, but some of the most common ADHD characteristics are:

  • Impulsiveness

  • Disorganization

  • Procrastination

  • Lack of time management skills

  • Trouble focusing on and completing tasks

  • Restlessness

  • Frequent mood swings

  • Being easily frustrated

  • Sensitivity to perceived rejection

ADHD is easy to miss.

The struggles associated with ADHD can be treated and improved. There are many different tools and strategies you can learn to better your quality of life, from managing your time more effectively to gaining new understanding about why you feel or act the way you do, and having someone in your corner — someone who understands what you’re going through and working towards — can be invaluable.

My therapy sessions are energetic and highly collaborative, designed to build the comfort and trust levels necessary to work together successfully. I work well with clients who are motivated and enjoy building those kinds of relationships.

These results may feel out of your grasp right now. But with consistent support, you can get there.
